Sinar Mas Group
Controlled by the Widjaja family[1], Sinar Mas Group has interests in:
- forestry, through subsidiary Sinar Mas Forestry
- pulp and paper, through subsidiary Asia Pulp and Paper (APP)
- agribusiness, where Indonesian palm oil interests are handled by subsidiaries Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) and PT SMART
- property (various subsidiaries) and insurance

- energy/coal mining, through the newly established entity Sinar Mas Mining & Energy[3]
The Widjaja family maintains control of the Sinar Mas group though a complex network of offshore holding and trust companies.[4] According to Joe Studwell, author of Asian Godfathers, the Widjajas are masters of the ‘godfather arts’; they pyramid companies and practice opaque interplay between private and public businesses.[5]
